Holding a joint appointment as associate Professor in CHID and GWSS Reddy’s wealth of research interests and expertise lie in Asian American Studies, Global Studies, Queer Studies, Sexuality, Critical Race Theory and Globalization Studies. His teaching explores the themes of gender, sexuality and race focusing on specific problems and issues relevant to these areas of study. He is the author of Freedom with Violence Race, Sexuality, and the US State. In this work Reddy develops a new paradigm for understanding race, sexuality, and national citizenship and examines a crucial contradiction he sees at the heart of modernity: that the nation-state’s claim to provide freedom from violence depends on its systematic deployment of violence against peoples perceived as nonnormative and irrational.
