The Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies maintains an on-going student assistant position for University of Washington students awarded Work Study as part of their overall financial aid.
The position is a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the labor movement and other social justice movements while developing outreach and networking skills with students, faculty and community members. It also offers office and clerical experience useful for future employment opportunities.
Rate of pay for the position is $16/hour and the schedule is typically 6-8 hours a week during the academic year. The Work Study employment period is October 1, 2018 to June 14, 2019. Duties and responsibilities of the position include:
- Processing financial transactions including incoming donations and outgoing payments
- Maintaining a contact database and email lists
- Assisting in arranging and implementing Center events (may require evening or weekend work)
- Conducting event and scholarship publicity, including outreach to undergraduate students, including student groups
- Communicating with university and community constituents of the Center
- Other duties as assigned
To qualify for the position, students must be enrolled at the University of Washington and have been awarded Work Study as part of their financial aid. Other minimum qualifications include:
- Interest in the labor movement and/or other social justice movements
- Well organized, thorough, pays attention to detail in paperwork
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks and able to work without constant supervision
- Knowledge of MS Word, Access, Excel
- Willingness to keep a predictable schedule
