The Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies extends our solidarity with the ILWU Local 6 warehouse workers on strike at C&H Sugar in Crockett, California and the ILWU Local 10 C&H dockworkers who refuse to cross the picket line.

On strike for the first time in decades since June 15, the C&H warehouse workers demand their employer bargain in good faith and meet their demands for healthcare, overtime pay, and retirement benefits. Over four weeks have passed without C&H meeting the demands of the striking Local 6 workers.

We also extend our solidarity with the sugar workers in Negros Occidental in the Philippines, whose low-wage and toiling labor cultivated the sugar that has since been diverted to a non-union terminal in Richmond, California. The striking Local 6 warehouse workers recognize the connection between their struggle and the struggle of the exploited sugar workers in Negros. Sugar workers in the Philippines are the first in a long and international process to touch the sugarcane that is then transformed into raw sugar to be received by dockworkers, warehouse workers, and refinery workers.
