The Harry Bridges Center was delighted to learn that Michael Aguirre has been awarded the UW Graduate School’s Distinguished Dissertation in the Humanities and Fine Arts Award!

Aguirre received his PhD for his dissertation, “The Wages of Borders: Political Economy, Labor Activism, and Racial Formation in the Imperial-Mexicali Borderlands, 1937-1979” from the Department of History in May 2019. His committee was co-chaired by former Harry Bridges Chair Professor James Gregory and Professor Adam Warren.

Aguirre is a former fellow and longtime friend of the center and we are delighted to see a work of labor history win this prestigious award!
