Alex Miller teaches in the division of Ethnic, Gender, and Labor Studies, where his courses embody the interdisciplinary spirit of the university's Tacoma campus. Drawing upon his background in literary studies, his current scholarship seeks to explore how contemporary authors imagine transformations within the gender order resulting from deindustrialization and the concomitant rise of global, neoliberal economic relations. His catalog of courses reflects his diverse interests, ranging from labor history to critical masculinity studies. As both a founding member and the faculty coordinator of UWT's Labor Solidarity Project, Alex has been tasked with hosting a public seminar in the Spring of 2020 that will focus on contemporary local labor tensions, policy, and activism.
